Making Massive Datasets Universally Accessible and Useful

Jon Trowbridge (Google, Inc.)
Open data Amphitheatre C
Chair: Rob Lee (Rattle Research)

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful… but what about the subset of the world’s information that is too large to efficiently transmit across the Internet as it exists today?

This talk will discuss a project underway at Google to collect and distribute large scientific datasets using a 21st century “Sneakernet”: multi-terabyte disk arrays shipped via FedEx and other common carriers.
